About Kayla Stevens

Kayla Stevens is a New Jersey based painter with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers, New Brunswick. Kayla is self-taught and has had a fiery passion for art, and all forms of expression, since very early childhood.  Her aunt and grandparents inspired her to start drawing as early as she can remember, it was always her favorite pastime. In high school, she learned portraiture and observational drawing, and became focused on hyperrealism with graphite and colored pencil. In 2019, she started attending Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. She became invested in color theory and developing a new painting practice. Kayla is deeply inspired by the practice of art therapy, the language of intuitive expression through gesture and color. Kayla has exhibited work at the Glasshouse in New York City for an event organized by Global Citizen, as well as exhibitions at Mason Gross Galleries at Rutgers, New Brunswick, a young artist exhibition at Rutgers, Camden, several teen arts competitions at Rowan College at Burlington County, and other local shows.
